Peebles u16s new look squad had their first competitive match on Sunday against Haddington Colts at Whitestone Park. The 7-1 victory for the Colts didn't fully reflect the performance by the Peebles team as they competed well for the majority of the match. Haddington egded out Peebles 2-1 in the first half but that was not the whole story. Haddington scored within the first minute without Peebles so much as touching the ball. However the boys soon warmed up and within 10 minutes had equalised with a rasping shot from their captian Joe Lothian from the edge of the box. Peebles lost Dan Stark with a dislocated knee after 20 minutes but that didn't seem to effect the team with them continuing to press and Nathan Reid only denied his first goal of the season by the post. Jamie Samson's long throws were causing havoc in the Haddington defence as more chances were created but none converted. However it was Haddinton that took the lead with the last kick of the first-half. The second half continued in the same way for the first 10 minutes but Haddington Colts third goal really opened up the game as Peebles pushed forward trying to get back into the match. In doing so Peebles lost some of their fluency and Haddington were able to capitalise on the spaces created. The scoreline was a bit harsh but there were a lot of positives drawn from the game not least the attitude of the Peebles team despite the result. |
