Peebles u16 enjoy first win in league

Peebles u16s used home advantage to defeat North Merchiston BC u16s by 2 -1 on Sunday 29 August. In their third game Peebles probably deserved the victory as they created more clear cut chances but with the Merchiston goalie making some great saves the Peebles team had to endure a nervous last 10 minutes.

Peebles had taken the lead in the first half after Dylan Gray's perseverance paid off.  Dylan playing at Centre Half picked up the ball on the edge of the penalty box after a Peebles corner and fired in a shot which was blocked, he hit it again and that too was blocked but his third effort found the goal.  Peebles continued to press in the first half but couldn't increase their lead.  In the second half Merchiston pressed much harder and Peebles were finding it difficult to get any rhythm going .  Subs were made and Nathan Johnson moved into the centre of midfield from the left wing.  Within a few minutes the change paid off as Nathan picked up the ball about 25 yards out and unleashed a thunderbolt.  2-0 Peebles.  This should have made it easier for Peebles but Merchiston didn't let their heads go down and they pushed forward.  With 10 minutes to go they pulled one back when the Peebles palyers stopped, thinking the ball had gone out.  Merchiston crossed for an easy tap in.  The last 10 minutes were agony but Peebles held on.

Well done to the whole team for a deserved victory!
